Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells (Amorton)

Amorton is the world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed by Panasonic. Unlike crystalline silicon, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, leading to more frequent photon-silicon interactions and higher light absorption. This allows for the production of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) for power generation. Amorton's unique manufacturing process allows for multiple solar cells to be connected in series on a single substrate, enabling custom voltage designs for various applications. It leverages the photovoltaic effect of semiconductors to generate electricity when exposed to light. Amorton is highly sensitive to the visible light spectrum, similar to the human eye, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor lighting conditions.
