Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells (Amorton)
Amorton is the world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed by Panasonic. Unlike crystalline silicon, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, allowing for more frequent interaction between photons and silicon atoms, thus absorbing more light. This enables the production of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) for power generation. Amorton cells are manufactured by forming a film of amorphous silicon on a substrate, followed by a metal electrode and a protective film. The company's patterning technology allows for multiple solar cells to be connected in series on a single substrate, enabling custom voltage designs for various applications. Amorton is named by integrating 'amorphous silicon' and 'photons' (particles of light).
