Product Description

Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells

Amorphous silicon solar cells, exemplified by Panasonic's "Amorton," are a type of solar cell classified by their non-crystalline material structure. Unlike crystal silicon, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, leading to more frequent photon-silicon interactions and thus higher light absorption. This allows for the production of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) suitable for power generation. Amorton is the world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, manufactured by forming a film on substrates using decomposed material gases. The company's patterning technology enables the creation of multiple solar cells connected in series on a single substrate, allowing for custom voltage designs for various applications. Amorphous silicon solar cells generate electricity through the photovoltaic effect, where incident light creates electron-hole pairs that are then separated and collected by an internal electric field at a p/n junction, enabling current flow when an external load is connected.
