Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells - Amorton
Amorton is Panasonic's world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed using decomposed material gases to form a film on a series of substrates. Unlike crystal silicon, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, leading to more frequent photon-silicon atom interactions and higher light absorption. This allows for the production of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) for power generation. Amorton cells can be manufactured with multiple solar cells connected in series on a single substrate, enabling custom voltage designs for various applications. They are sensitive to visible light wavelengths, similar to the human eye, making them suitable for both power generation and light sensing.
