Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells (Amorton)
Amorton is the world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed by Panasonic. Unlike crystalline silicon, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, allowing for more frequent photon-silicon atom interactions and thus higher light absorption. This enables the creation of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) for power generation. Amorton cells can be manufactured on various substrates, including glass, stainless steel, and plastic films, allowing for diverse shapes and forms, including flexible and bent cells. Their high sensitivity within the visible light spectrum (400-700 nm) makes them suitable for both power generation and visible light sensing applications. The integrated design allows for easy voltage customization by connecting multiple cells in series on a single substrate, simplifying manufacturing compared to crystalline silicon solar cells.
