Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells (Amorton)
Amorton is the world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed by Panasonic. Unlike crystalline silicon, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, allowing for more frequent photon-silicon atom interactions and thus higher light absorption. This enables the production of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) for power generation. Amorton cells can be designed with various voltages by connecting multiple cells in series on a single substrate, offering flexibility in voltage customization for diverse applications. They are highly sensitive to the visible light spectrum, similar to the human eye, making them suitable for both power generation and light sensing.
