Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells (Amorton)
Amorton is the world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed by Panasonic. Unlike crystalline silicon, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, leading to more frequent photon-silicon interactions and higher light absorption. This allows for the production of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) for power generation. Amorton's key advantages include its ability to be manufactured with multiple solar cells connected in series on a single substrate, enabling custom voltage designs for various applications. Its flexibility in substrate materials (glass, stainless steel, plastic film) allows for diverse shapes and forms, including bent cells. Amorton exhibits high sensitivity within the visible light spectrum, making it suitable for light-sensing applications.
