Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells (Amorton)
Amorton is the world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed by Panasonic. It utilizes a non-crystalline material with irregular atomic arrangements, allowing for more frequent photon-silicon interactions and higher light absorption compared to crystal silicon. This enables the production of ultrathin films for power generation. Amorton offers advantages such as voltage customization through series connection, variety in shapes and forms using different substrates (glass, stainless steel, plastic film), and high sensitivity within the visible light spectrum, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications as a power source and a visible light sensor.

Technical Specifications
| Specification | Description |
|---|---|
| Principles of Power Generation | Power is generated due to the photovoltaic effect of semiconductors. When exposed to light, electrons and holes are generated. At a p/n junction, an internal electric field separates these charges, allowing electricity to flow when an external load is connected. |
| Cell Connection Structure | Integrated amorphous silicon solar cells (Type II connection) allow multiple cells to be connected in series on a single substrate, enabling voltage customization. This differs from crystalline silicon solar cells where cells are severed and connected. |
| Light Source Categories | Amorton is available for use under various light sources including Sunlight (AM-0, AM-1, AM-1.5) and Artificial light (Incandescent light, Fluorescent light, Electric discharge lamps, Light-emitting diodes (LED)). |
| Standard Test Conditions (STC) | Solar irradiance: 1000W/, Spectrum: AM-1.5, Cell temperature: 25. |
| Illumination Levels (lux) | Outdoor: Sunny Noon (100,000 lx), Sunny 10:00 a.m. (65,000 lx), Sunny 3:00 p.m. (35,000 lx), Cloudy Noon (32,000 lx). Indoor: Offices/conference rooms (300-600 lx), Restaurants/coffee shops (75-150 lx), Indoor emergency staircases (<75 lx). |
| Spectral Sensitivity | Amorphous silicon solar cells provide light-sensing capability similar to the human eye, with sensitivity primarily in the visible light spectrum (approx. 400-700 nm). |
| Electrical Properties (Outdoor Use - Glass Type) | Open-circuit voltage: 0.89V/cell, Short-circuit current: 14.8mA/c, Maximum power: 7.89mW/c (under AM-1.5, 100mW/, 25). |
| Electrical Properties (Outdoor Use - Film Type) | Open-circuit voltage: 0.82V/cell, Short-circuit current: 12.0mA/c, Maximum power: 5.6mW/c (under AM-1.5, 100mW/, 25). |
| Relationship between Cell Area/Rows and Electrical Properties | Current is proportional to cell area. Voltage is proportional to the number of cells in series. Electrical properties can be adjusted by changing the number of cells and cell area. |
