Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells - Amorton
Amorton is Panasonic's world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed using decomposed material gases to form a film on a series of substrates. Unlike crystal silicon with regular atomic arrangements, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, leading to more frequent photon-silicon interactions and higher light absorption. This allows for the production of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) for power generation. Amorton cells can be designed with various voltages by connecting multiple cells in series on a single substrate, offering flexibility in application design. They are sensitive to the visible light spectrum, similar to the human eye, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor lighting levels and as visible light sensors.

| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Principle of Power Generation | Photovoltaic effect of semiconductors. When exposed to light, electrons and holes are generated and form electricity. At a p/n junction, an internal electric field separates electrons and holes, allowing electricity to flow through an external load. |
