YGM Motor Protectors PTC Thermistors
YGM Motor Protectors PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Thermistors are designed to act as thermal protectors for electrical motors. They offer rapid response protection for electrical machines and are compact for easy assembly into windings. Available with or without an insulated sleeve and featuring flexible connecting leads, these PTC thermistors exhibit a non-linear resistance/temperature response. At a specified temperature, their resistance rapidly increases to a very high value, enabling effective fail-safe circuitry. When a given temperature (nominal response temperature NAT) is exceeded, the circuit can be switched off through a relay or amplifier. They are particularly suited for monitoring motor windings and in simple fail-safe circuits.

Installation Tips
- For PTC temperature sensors in electrical windings, thermistors must be inserted before impregnation.
- Embed one sensor in each phase, ideally in the center of the hottest coil and on the outflow side of air movement.
- Air inflow onto the sensor can interfere with heat transfer.
- If using varnish/lacquer that is not chemically neutral, suitability tests must be conducted by the customer.
- WARNING! Install the sensor parallel with the copper of the winding to maintain high-voltage resistance rating.
Quality Standards
- PTC resistance values for motor protection are specified in DIN 44081/44082.
- Resistance values below NAT 20 are not specified.
- Cold resistance is not an indication of the PTCs condition; ideally between 40-200 ohms (can be 35-250 ohms).
- Greatest resistance change occurs between 5 C either side of NAT (at least 15%/K).
- Random testing is carried out according to DGQ P90/P10 (DIN 40080).
- AQL values can be fixed by arrangement.
