Product Overview

The BDH8244 is a unipolar Hall-effect switch IC designed for electronic commutation in brushless DC motor applications. It integrates a voltage regulator, temperature compensation circuit, small signal amplifier, and Schmitt trigger. The device features an open-drain output capable of sinking up to 25mA. When the magnetic field perpendicular to the Hall element exceeds the Operating Point threshold (BOP), the BDH8244 outputs a low level (ON). When the magnetic field drops below the Release Point (BRP), the device outputs a high level (OFF). The difference between the magnetic operating point and the release point is the magnetic hysteresis (BHYS). If the device powers up within the hysteresis range (below BOP, above BRP), the output will be in an uncertain state. The output will enter the correct state after first exceeding the BOP or BRP threshold. Key applications include brushless DC motors, motor and fan control, and position and speed sensors.

Note: The BDH8244 integrates a voltage regulator and can operate over a wide power supply voltage range. When powered by an unregulated supply, external transient protection circuitry is mandatory. For regulated power supplies, it is recommended to connect a capacitor (typically 0.1F) in parallel with the chip's VCC power supply to ground, and optionally a series resistor R1 (typically 100). An output capacitor CL can be used as an output filter (typically 1nF).
