Product Overview
The MAX31855 is a thermocouple interface chip designed to simplify the integration of K-type thermocouples for temperature sensing. Unlike semiconductor sensors, thermocouples are constructed from two welded metal wires, generating a small voltage proportional to temperature. The MAX31855 provides a digital output, eliminating the need for an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and handling the complexities of thermocouple measurement, such as the small voltage signals, non-linear response, and cold-temperature compensation. This makes it suitable for applications requiring a wide temperature range, including HVAC systems, heaters, boilers, and kilns. The MAX31855 breakout board is compatible with microcontrollers like Arduino and single-board computers running Python or CircuitPython.
